Medieval Vicopisano
A fun way to discover Vicopisano is searching for its 13 medieval towers, diving in their history, the meaning of their names and their different functions.
In fact, 9 Medieval towers - ranging from XI to XV century - are well preserved within the historic center of the village: a real exemple of medieval buildings and of those who lived in the area back to that age. The tower is the maximum expression of power and domination of the city. Furthermore, along the walls, 4 "torrioni cilindrici" are still visible: they were used to strategically control the nearby area.
The towers that are still standing of military and civil type: a historical architectural heritage that we invite you to visit and learn with us, a tangible demonstration of the importance of the village in the panorama of the medieval villages of Tuscany.
